Reviewed 3 days ago for a stay in August 2017

We have just returned from a wonderful week's holiday in this lovely location in the Charente-Maritime. Chez Bouquet is a really great house to rent for a family holiday, lots of space for a large family gathering, well furnished and set in superb grounds. The swimming pool is a real asset and beautifully maintained. The grandchildren loved the short walk down the grassy lane to feed the horses, each day. The horses seemed to enjoy it too. Stephen, the owner, is a great character and a real gentleman. He entertained the whole family and added enormously to the holiday. He has a rich fund of stories and memories. He also know the area really well and made excellent recommendations each day, which added to the experience. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the time at Chez Bouquet and would recommend it to others without any hesitation.

Good afternoon Stephen

Hope all is well with you, and that you had a great week with your girls.

We really enjoyed our stay with you, a really fab part of France, the countryside, and the coastal area.. Ollie is missing your garden, he finds ours too small now! It was great that he and Oliver cat got on together.

What about this for a reference for your site

We have just had a fabulous holiday staying at Chez Bouquet. The house and garden and pool were just what was required. Having breakfast and our evening meals in the conservatory overlooking the garden was great. The house was very large and comfortable, and the addition of Sky TV [with the sports channels] was a great bonus.

Stephen, [the owner], was very obliging, and had plenty of information regarding the local and coastal areas, and local restaurants. He now feels more like a friend rather than someone who rented his house to us. Looking forward to returning.

Dear Stephen
What wonderful tranquility indeed! We found it an ideal place to just chill out. Breakfast in the morning in the front conservatory and then off to the pool conservatory to relax, read and paint, swim, or do Yoga. Lunch and evening meals in the garden or out to one of the great little restaurants so near at hand. You really have set this home up beautifully. I will be contacting you shortly to book a painting holiday for RAGS, theatre group I run, and our partners. I also have a Yoga/Tia Chi group who are interested.

Best regards - Waveney-Cornwall

got back from a 2 week holiday at Chez Bouquet in late Aug 2010. 13 of us stayed there and I was slightly concerned we might get under eachothers feet - but no risk of that! The place is huge and we had loads of space.

Chez Bouquet was exactly as described in the details on the website and actually exceeded expectations in many ways. I had a minds eye image of sitting reading under the trees in the garden with a good book and a beer, with the kids (young adults actually) messing about in the pool and everyone chilled. Fully achieved many times!

Ther location is great - 25 mins from the beach, 30 mins from Royan and Cognac and 60 mins from La Rochelle - all visited during our stay and recommended.

We also visited the restaurant at Etang da Brousse, recommended by Stephen and had a great meal up there - 4 courses for 18 euro. Food was lovely!

The wine tasting evening arranged by Martin/Wendy (friends of Stephen) is also a fun way to spend a couple of hours - we bought loads of wine from them at great prices.

All in all we had a great holiday at Chez Bouquet and would thoroughly recommend it if you want a laid back gite type holiday in France in the French countryside, but close to lots of things to do.

Fernand, who looks after the place, couldn't do enough for us and has the patience of a saint! He dealt swiftly and efficiently with a couple of minor problems we had.

The local 'patisserie' in Cravans sells great cakes, etc and is walkable if you fancy an early morning stroll or is a4 min drive. The local supermarket is 10 mins drive away (Super U) in Gemozac and is large and reasonable value (10L of red wine for 15euro is not to be sniffed at!)

A great place to holiday.

Well what can I say!!

We returned after 7 years and had a great time, the house is just as we remembered it to be, but the improvements that have been done are outstanding, great new oven and state of the art hob, new garden dining table and comfortable chairs, new loungers, and a couple of hammocks!

The whole place very clean with beautiful gardens & lovely pool, everything was great and as remembered including lovely interior furniture, friendly horses, great local restaurants etc.

We had 6 of us initially there, withguests joining us for a birthday BBQ bash with another 9 guests staying and nothing was too much trouble (thanks again Steven).

Highly recommended this as a peaceful holiday for us and our family with lots to do or not do.
We will be back

"Absolutely beautiful place"

I stayed here for a night during a tour of France and Spain with my father in June.

If you're looking for a quiet retreat in a beautiful traditional house with idyllic surroundings, this is the place for you. As other reviewers have mentioned the place is massive. I hadn't appreciated how much space there was in the house until Steve showed us around. It's not until you see upstairs that it becomes apparent how big the house is.

The gardens and pool are beautiful and there's more than enough chairs, tables and sun loungers for 3 families. The built In BBQ makes it perfect for providing a great evenings entertainment around the under light pool.

The people that own the local vin yard are great and there is no holding back on the amount of wine you can taste! We came out with more than we intended after spending around an hour there.

A few minutes drive away is a great local restaurant situated at the side of a trout lake. The setting is fantastic and I'd challenge anyone to find a better location for a chilled out evening meal with some local wine to wash it down. The food and drink is very reasonably priced and great for families. The owners are very friendly and you feel completely safe and relaxed. Shorts and T shirts are fine here. I don't remember the name of the place (sampled too much of the local wine) but am sure Steve will point you in the right direction.
If you're thinking about going here - just do it! You'll struggle to find anything better!!!

Our holiday - August 2013-- At a beautifully restored and extended farmhouse, Peaceful Chez Bouquet could hardly be better situated. The sandy beaches of Royan and St Palais Sur Mer are 25 minutes drive away, the Roman city of Saintes is a similar distance.

"There's plenty of room in the house for two families, and the swimming pool is a delight. A well equipped and modern kitchen (persevere with the hob, you'll get there in the end), comfortable beds and English channels and sports on satellite TV.

"An impressive and very large hypermarket is 10 minutes drive away at Gemozac, and don't forget to check out the boulangerie and patisserie in Cravans (home made chocolates a speciality)."

My son and I toured France and Spain and stayed at Chez Bouquet for two nights on our way back to UK. What a find ! We just loved the rural location and the general setting of the place.
For me (a lover of peace and quite), it was absolutely ideal. The beautiful gardens of about two acres were very well kept and a joy to stroll through. After our long drive from Spain, we enjoyed a refreshing swim in the welcoming pool.
Our bedroom was large, well equipped and nicely decorated. There was a door which lead to a conservatory that overlooked the pool. Very convenient.
Stephen (the owner) took us to his local wine and cognac producer for a tasting, followed by a visit to the local restaurant on the lake, for a very enjoyable and reasonably priced supper. This is the kind of service that is rarely encountered these days.
We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay and will definitely be back.

Highly recommend Chez Bouquet as a haven of tranquillity. I run Workshops/Courses in France and Spain, and am always on the lookout for new locations in both countries.
Chez Bouquet 's website showed excellent photos, but I would normally only choose a new location and property with a prior inspection visit.
Stephen Ford's (Owner) website was very comprehensive and Stephen himself was so helpful in answering my many questions, and his knowledge of the area convinced me that his property would make an excellent destination for my Workshop and great holiday for my clients. The clincher for me was his description of his "State of the Art" kitchen. A must for tthe type of Courses that I run.
I was certainly not disappointed and my clients absolutely loved Chez Bouquet. It's a wonderful place to relax lazing by the pool, soaking up the sun or meandering through the acres of sunflowers within walking distance of the property.. Sip the wonderful wines from the local vineyards, only 5mins. drive time away..Great beaches only 20mins drive time.
There are some very good and inexpensive restaurants in the surrounding area, especially at the Lake where they serve great steaks and if you fancy fishing you may just catch a trout which they will happily wrap and send home with you!
My first workshop in June'13 was such a huge success that I have booked another Course for 2014, A few of my clients from last year loved it so much they have signed up again!
I am so very glad that I discovered this delightful house and hope to keep returning year after year.

Chez Bouquet, a beautiful 250 year old farmhouse with character, and set in 2 acres in a quiet village in SW France, a wonderful place to visit. The venue is very well presented and kept to a high standard, with all the amenities one requires in the farmhouse, plus a lovely outdoor pool, bikes to ride to explore the area and horses to feed.Chez Bouquet is completely private for a great holiday with family or friends as it caters for up to 14 persons exclusively, whilst near excellent eating places. If you wish to explore the area which has history, famous wine chateaux or the sea, nothing is far away. Or just to stay and chill out in your own exclusive farmhouse for that special holiday. I know I will return.

Thank you, for a great holiday in June
Your house and settings are exquisite, so nice to find a clean house and fresh linen. The lovely Charente way of life is slow and relaxed totally different to city life in UK or Joberg, we found the locals charming if not a little bizarre. The house looks a bit odd from the outside but once you start exploring it makes sense. It would be nice to transport it to the Cape overlooking the sea, that would be too much to ask, once again we all being six fun loving South Africans loved it. Above all the house was fresh and everything was clean and tidy, oh yes, G R E A T pool. Promise you that if we come to Europe again we will look you up.
Best wishes from.

My partner and I were just so lucky to find this place! It is so beautiful and the neighbours are absolutely lovely. I have now returned 3 times, which just about says it all. My then partner and I arrived to be treated by the neighbours who showed us round. Told us where was good to eat and how to get to the shops! What a welcome!

Second time it was my art group on mass! Six painters and their other halves! We had the most glorious time! So much to paint, so much to do! And the welcome back from the neighbours was unbelievable. They took us to the walnut groves. Took the chaps into the woods for mushrooms! Oh! It just goes on and on!

Third time!!!!! Was to celebrate our marriage with our dear friends! What can I say! Sublime!?!

We are going back in 2015! Thank you for your home Mr Ford and the improvements you make every year are great! Best regards
